I plan to take the CMA exam in a year. What books should I use? The current IMA list would take 3 years to get through!

I passed it a few years ago just using the Gleim self study books.

You can read through them and answer a few of their review questions and
should be good to go.

Same here.  My advice when looking at review questions is to look at
explanations of all answers to prepare you to understand not only why
one answer is right, but why the others are wrong (process of
elimination is very important in multiple choice tests).

Does the IMA still have the certification Listserve?  That could be a
good place to go when you start preparing for the exam.

Along the same line: when you are taking practice exams take note of any
answer that you are not sure why it is wrong.  Say you know B is the
answer but not sure why they thought C might get you, research C.  You
already know B.

know what I mean?

Another reason for following what I said (and Lawrence's advice) is that
when I took the CMA exams, I found some questions similar to my test
prep questions.  If I hadn't understood each of the answers I would have
had more difficulties.

Thank you, everybody! I have already ordered the HOCK study materials.
Now, will a year be enough time to prepare? I am 8 years out of school.

I did it 19 years out of school. I studied a part until I felt I was
ready, then sat for that part. I started studying in Sep 2002 and
finished the last exam in Sep 2003. For various reasons, I took 4 weeks
off from studying between the 2nd and 3rd exams and 11 weeks off between
the 3rd and 4th . So I think the answer is probably that one year will
be more than enough time. Passed them all (I used Gleim).
